    • -SYSTEM WAS ALMOST COMPLETELY EMPTY. -INSPECTED FOR SIGNS OF A LEAK. -THERE IS A VISIBLE LEAK FROM THE A/C CONDENSOR (IS EXTREMELY COMMON FOR A LEAK TO FORM WHERE IT DID. GM EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON ALL SUV`S WITH THE SAME A/C SYSTEM FOR THIS EXACT ISSUE BUT DID NOT EXTEND THE WARRANTY ON ANY OF THE TRUCK MODELS. -INSPECTED FOR OTHER VISIBLE LEAKS AND THERE IS A LEAK FROM THE DISCHARGE LINE BY THE COMPRESSOR. -THERE IS A TSB RELEASED ABOUT ADDING A BRACKET BETWEEN THE SUCTION AND DISCHARGE LINE BY THE COMPRESSOR TO HELP SUPPORT BOTH LINES. *RECOMMEND REPLACEMENT OF THE A/C CONDENSER AND DISCHARGE LINE DUE TO LEAKS. **ALSO RECOMMEND ADDING THE BRACKET OUTLINED IN THE TSB BETWEEN THE DISCHARGE LINE AND SUCTION LINE.

    • CUSTOMER NOTE : BRAKE NOISE JUST STARTED THIS MORNING WHILE LIGHTLY BRAKING
    • -TOOK THE VEHICLE FOR A SHORT TEST DRIVE AND NOTICED A GRINDING NOISE FROM THE DRIVER FRONT CORNER. -INSPECTED THE FRONT AND REAR BRAKES. -FOUND THE FRONT BRAKE PADS HAD GONE METAL TO METAL, DAMAGING THE FRONT ROTORS. -MEASURED THE REAR BRAKE PADS. THE INSIDE PAD ON THE DRIVER REAR CORNER IS AT 3MM (DUE FOR REPLACEMENT) -THE REAR ROTORS ARE OK TO MACHINE. -TESTED THE BRAKE FLUID. IT IS AT 1%MOISTURE CONTENT (OK) AND 30PPM COPPER CONTENT (OK) *RECOMMEND REPLACEMENT OF THE FRONT BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS (METAL TO METAL) *RECOMMEND REPLACEMENT OF THE REAR BRAKES AND MACHINE THE ROTORS (DRIVER SIDE INNER PAD IS AT 3MM)

    • UPON INITIAL START VEHICLE BATTERY WAS COMPLETELY DEAD, NO LIGHTS ON DASH, TRIED TO USE JUMPER PACK TO START VEHICLE , GOT VEHICLE STARTED BUT AS SOON AS JUMPER PACK WAS DISCONNECTED VEHICLE STALLED – TESTED BATTERY AND BATTERY IS AT 8 VOLTS WITH 75 COLD CRANKING AMPS – STARTER TESTED WITHIN SPECIFICATIONS – ALTERNATOR FAILED OUTPUT TEST AT 11 VOLTS WITH NO LOAD AND 10 VOLTS FULLY LOADED – RECOMMEND RECHARGING BATTERY AND RE TESTING – RECOMMEND REPLACING ALTERNATOR
    • SPARK PLUG TUBE SEALS ARE LEAKING, OIL COOLER/ FILTER HOUSING IS LEAKING OIL DOWN FRONT OF ENGINE, DUE TO LOCATION OF FILTER IT MAY BE POSSIBLE THAT A LOT OF THIS OIL IS RESIDUAL FROM OIL CHANGES, IT NEEDS TO BE CLEANED IN ORDER TO BE COMPLETELY SURE RECOMMEND DEGREASING ENGINE BAY AND ADDING UV DYE TO OIL TO VERIFY SOURCES OF LEAKS

    • CLEAN AND REMOVE DEPOSITS IN THE FUEL AND AIR INDUCTION SYSTEM THAT CONTRIBUTE TO DRIVEABLILITY PROBLEMS SUCH AS HESITATION, SURGE, STALL, HARD STARTING, ROUGH IDLE AND LOSS OF POWER. *DURING THE INDUCTION SYSTEM CLEANING SERVICE, THE IDLE OF THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO INCREASE AS MORE AND MORE CARBON BUILD UP WAS REMOVED FROM THE THROTTLE BODY. -THE VEHICLE STARTED TO IDLE AT 2500RPM -PERFORMED A BATTERY DISCONNECT RELEARN AND STARTED THE VEHICLE AND IT SEEMED TO IDLE NORMALLY, SO THE REMAINDER OF THE REPAIRS WERE CONTINUED. -STARTED THE VEHICLE TO TEST DRIVE AND AFTER DRIVING THE VEHICLE, THE IDLE WAS BACK UP TO 2500RPM. -TRIED PERFORMING THE BATTERY DISCONNECT RELEARN AGAIN AND GOT THE SAME OUTCOME. -TRIED PERFORMING AN IDLE RELEARN WITH ALL SCAN TOOLS IN THE SHOP (INCLUDING AND OEM TECH 2 SCANNER) AND THERE WAS NO CHANGE. -ONCE THE VEHICLE IS STARTED, RPM`S CLIMB TO 2500 RPM. IF YOU PLACE THE VEHICLE IN DRIVE, THE RPM`S DROP DOWN TO NORMAL WITHIN 10 SECONDS. IF YOU SHIFT BACK TO PARK AFTER THAT, THE RPM`S STAY NORMAL UNTIL THE VEHICLE IS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED AGAIN (THEN THEY GO BACK TO 2500 RPM). -DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT THIS PARTICULAR YEAR WITH THE 2.4L ENGINE PACKAGE CAN RUN INTO THIS EXACT ISSUE WITH RELEARNING THE IDLE. -THERE IS A HIGH POSSIBILITY THAT OVER THE NEXT 250-500 MILES IT CAN GO BACK TO NORMAL, BUT THERE ISN'T A WAY TO JUST COMPLETELY CLEAR THE PREVIOUSLY LEARNED POSITION. **ALL OF THE PROBLEMS ARE BEING CAUSED BY THE VEHICLE SLOWLY LEARNING, OVER TIME, HOW TO COMPENSATE FOR THE AMOUNT OF CARBON BUILDING UP ON THE THROTTLE BLADE WHICH REQUIRES THE THROTTLE BODY TO BE OPENED FURTHER TO ALLOW ENOUGH AIR INTO THE ENGINE TO STAY IDLING (THROTTLE BODY IS ALL ELECTRONICALLY/COMPUTER CONTROLLED). NOW THAT THE CARBON IS REMOVED, THE COMPUTER IS GOING TO HAVE TO RELEARN ON IT'S OWN THAT IT NEEDS TO CLOSE THE THROTTLE BLADE MORE TO KEEP IDLE AT A NORMAL LEVEL. ***RECOMMEND EITHER HAVING THE CUSTOMER TAKE THE VEHICLE AND DRIVE IT TO SEE IF THE ISSUE GOES AWAY, OR GET PERMISSION FROM THE CUSTOMER TO ALLOW ONE OF THE TECHNICIANS THAT HAS A VERY LONG COMMUTE IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC, TO TAKE THE VEHICLE HOME FOR THE NEXT COUPLE DAYS TO SEE IF IT GETS BETTER. THERE HAVE CURRENTLY BEEN 40-50 MILES PUT ON THE VEHICLE SINCE THE ISSUE AROSE AND IT HAS NOT GOTTEN BETTER AT THIS POINT.

    • -TEST DROVE VEHICLE 20 miles /40 mins. ALSO LET VEHICLE IDLE IN SHOP FOR 30 mins. WAS NOT ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE CUSTOMERS CONCERN. -SCANNED THE VEHICLE TO SEE IF THERE WERE ANY CODES PERTAINING TO ANYTHING THAT WOULD CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO STALL. -THERE ARE MULTIPLE COMMUNICATION CODES STORED IN MULTIPLE BODY MODULES BUT NONE IN THE POWERTRAIN MODULE.(ALL CODES ARE HISTOYR/NOT CURRENT) -CLEARED ALL CODES AND CONTINUED TO RUN THE VEHICLE FOR AN ADDITIONAL HOUR. -NO CODES HAVE RETURNED AND THE VEHICLE HAS STILL NOT SHUT OFF. *CAN NOT DUPLICATE THE CONCERN AT THIS TIME *LET VEHICLE SIT OVER THE WEEKEND AND DROVE IT AN ADDITIONAL 28 MILES MONDAY MORNING AND WAS FINALLY ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE ISSUE. -WHEN THE ISSUE OCCURED, THERE WAS A CODE STORED P0017 CRANKSHAFT POSITION-EXHAUST CAMSHAFT POSITION NOT PLAUSIBLE. -IT`S NOT POSSIBLE TO TELL IT THE CODE IS BEING SET BY THE STALL OR IF IT IS THE CAUSE OF THE STALL. -THE ISSUE ONLY ARISES WHEN THE ENGINE TEMPERATURE AND AMBIENT TEMPERATURE IN THE ENGINE BAY IS HIGH, SO THE VEHICLE HAS TO BE DRIVEN AND IDLED FOR LONG PERIODS OF TIME IN BETWEEN TESTS. AND ONCE THE VEHICLE STALLS, THE ISSUE STOPS BEING PRESENT ALLOWING THE VEHICLE TO RESTART AND RUN WHICH MAKES EVERYTHING TEST NORMAL. -CHECKED THE FREEZE FRAME DATA AND IT SHOWED THE CRANKSHAFT RPM AT 580RPM AND THE CAMSHAFT RPM AT 0 RPM. -MONITORED THE LIVE DATA OF THE RPM READINGS DURING THE STALL THOUGH AND THEY MATCH COMPLETELY (NO VARIATION). -DISCONNECTED THE CAMSHAFT ACTUATOR SOLENOIDS AND RAN VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY AFTER A STALL ONCE THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED (VEHICLE HAS TO BE RUNNING BEFORE DISCONNECTING THE SOLENOIDS). WITH THE ACTUATORS DISCONNECTED, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO RUN AND WOULD NOT STALL. -DUE TO THE VEHICLE NOT STALLING WITH THE CAMSHAFT ACTUATORS UNPLUGGED THE ISSUE IS MOST LIKELY SOMEWHERE IN THE CAMSHAFT TIMING SYSTEM. *NEED MORE TIME TO CONTINUE TESTING INTO THE CAMSHAFT TIMING SYSTEM -CONTINUED WITH TESTING OF THE CAMSHAFT ACTUATORS. -THE ACTUATORS SEEM TO BE WORKING NORMAL WHEN COMMANDED BY SCAN TOOL. -CHECKED TO SEE IF THE STALL WAS STILL NON PRESENT WITH THE SOLENOIDS UNPLUGGED AND THIS TIME IT STALL WITH THEM UNPLUGGED. -DURING DRIVING THERE WAS AN EVAPORATIVE EMISSION SYSTEM CODE STORED P0449 EVAPORATIVE EMISSION VENT SOLENOID VALVE CONTROL CIRCUIT. -DUE TO THE EVAP CODE SHOWING UP THE THOUGHT PROCESS WENT TOWARDS THE POSSIBILITY OF THE VENT VALVE BEING STUCK OPEN AND WHEN THE PURGE SOLENOID OPENS, IT IS POSSIBLY PULLING UNMETERED AIR IN THROUGH THE GAS TANK/EVAP SYSTEM CAUSING IT TO BECOME LEAN AND STALL. -TO TEST THAT THEORY, BLOCKED OFF THE EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS SYSTEM COMPLETELY FROM THE ENGINE AND RETESTED. -THE VEHICLE STILL STALLS AFTER ABOUT 30 MINS/30 MILES OF DRIVING, SO THE EVAP SYSTEM IS NOT TO BLAME. -CHECKED FUEL PRESSURE DURING STALL, ALL OK (60PSI ON LOW SIDE, 495 PSI ON HIGH SIDE) -MONITORED OXYGEN SENSOR VOLTAGES LEADING UP TO THE STALL, ALL SENSOR READINGS SEEM NORMAL. -MONITORED MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR READINGS DURING THE STALL (NORMAL). -RESET THE FUEL TRIMS, RESET THE IDLE LEARN VALUE, AND PERFORMED THE CAM/CRANK VARIATION RELEARN PROCEDURE, NO CHANGE. -CAMSHAFT AND CRANKSHAFT SENSOR RPM READINGS STAY PRESENT DURING STALL (MEANING THAT THE SENSORS ARE MOST LIKELY NOT THE CAUSE). -HAVE DONE A LARGE AMOUNT OF RESEARCH FOR OTHERS WITH SIMILAR ISSUES AND DUE TO THE CAMSHAFT CORRELATION CODE THAT SEEMS TO KEEP RETURNING AFTER STALLING, SUGGEST REPLACING THE VVT ACTUATOR SOLENOIDS AND RETEST. *THERE IS A POSSIBILITY THAT REPLACING THE CAMSHAFT ACTUATOR SOLENOIDS DOES NOT FIX THE ISSUE BUT DUE TO THE FACT THAT NO OTHER PROBLEMS CAN BE FOUND, IT IS A STARTING POINT. **RECOMMEND REPLACEMENT OF THE SOLENOIDS WITH OEM UNITS DUE TO AFTERMARKET REPLACEMENTS OFTEN CAUSING MORE ISSUES.
